Review of Hair Highlighting at Kenjo Salon on 19 Feb 2016

It had been at least ten years since I went for a hair colour or hair highlighting.  Was a bit apprehensive at first as it had been so long and I had long forgotten how I looked with coloured hair.

After a busy CNY celebration, it was time to make some changes.  I decided to do some changes to my hair but I didn't want to cut or perm it.  Hence next best option is to colour or highlight it... woohoo!

I decided on highlighting my hair instead of colouring the whole head of hair so that it is more subtle and when the hair grows out, it wouldn't look so obvious with a ring of black hair at the top.

Of course, my first choice of hair salon is Kenjo Salon, my Hair Sponsor, who is taking great care of my hair and hairstyling.

Look... the salon is nicely decorated with CNY decorations and flowers.

One last look of my black virgin hair before I proceeded with the hair colouring process.

I decided on a copper colour as this is 2016's hottest colour, as mentioned by a Her World online article but i decided on highlighting the hair so that it won't be too bright.  Joseph and Soo Bin recommended 8,42 8ROG for my hair and initially, I was extremely worried about the bright coppery colour.  But Joseph reassured me that it wouldn't be too obvious as I am doing highlighting of my hair instead of colouring the whole hair.

With his assurance and numerous years of experience, I felt at ease and Soo Bin proceeded to do her magic on my crowning glory.

Very carefully, she separated thin strands of hair before applying the hair colour on them.  She only did the front half portion of my hair as my hair is long, straight and all in one length.  I think this was better too as I didn't want the colour to be far too obvious since 2016 trend is to go naturally subtle with hair colours.

Kenjo Salon is using Davines range of hair colouring products and this is an awesome colour option for this who prefer ammonia-free colouring.  It is extremely gentle on the hair and scalp while achieving long lasting vibrant colours without limitations.  Extremely happy that my hair is well taken care of... yeah!

Time for the hair colour to settle in. Checking out other colours while waiting.

Soo Bin was so sweet to offer me some biscuits as it was past lunch hour and I haven't eaten anything yet.

After a specific time duration for the hair colour to settle in, we proceeded to wash the hair.

After that, it was time to condition the hair.

Soon Bin used this hair conditioning spray on my hair and comb it through before my hair was steamed to allow the goodness of the nutrients to be absorbed into my hair.

After the steaming process, the hair was washed again.

Another step to condition my hair before steaming it again.  I felt so loved.  Thanks Kenjo Salon for taking good care of my hair.

My hair is rinsed and I couldn't wait to see the final result.

My hair was blow dried by Soon Bin and her assistant.

Woohoo... I could see the final results now.  I just loved the subtleness of the highlights and I got a change of look without the colour being too overpowering.

The colour is more obvious under sunlight as I didn't want something too drastic for my hair.

See the difference?  I am loving my new look!

ArtScience Museum presents Van Cleef & Arpels: The Art and Science of Gems Exhibition on 23 April 2016

How often does one get to have a chance to get up close and personal with stunning creations from Van Cleef & Arpels from the French National Museum of Natural History Collection? 

I was one of the lucky few to be invited to the Media Conference for The Art & Science of Gems by Van Cleef & Arpels.  

Being a trained image consultant/trainer for 10 years, I loved beautiful jewellery pieces that have stories behind the inspirations on how they were designed and created.

Exploring the worlds of exquisite jewellery and their links to minerals, Van Cleef & Arpels: The Art and Science of Gems exhibition will premiere at Marina Bay Sands’ ArtScience Museum on April 23. Co-curated with ArtScience Museum, over 400 stunning creations from Van Cleef & Arpels and 250 minerals from the French National Museum of Natural History Collection will be on display. 

Waiting patiently for the media conference to start and also to find out which stunning pieces will be on display.

A first for Van Cleef & Arpels, the exhibition will feature two complementing routes to showcase the intersection between the science of mineralogy and the art of jewellery making: one route unearths the evolution of minerals from the deep Earth to its surface, and the other presents the transformation of these minerals into precious works of art in the hands of the Maison’s best craftsmen, known as the “Mains d’OrTM”. 

The stunning pieces of the exhibition are from the Maison’s archive collection, and also include pieces on loan from private collectors globally. 

Co-curated with ArtScience Museum, this is the first-of-its-kind exhibition that blends art, craft, history and geoscience with the elegance and style that characterises Van Cleef & Arpels’ rich heritage.

The Singapore exhibition follows a series of seven defining themes: couture, abstractions, influences, precious objects, nature, ballerinas and fairies, and icons. In conjunction with these breath-taking creations are natural treasures and scientific artefacts from Minerals and Gems Collection of the French National Museum of Natural History in Paris, France. 

Some of the amazing pieces were unveiled at the media conference after the media were briefed on the history and thoughts which went into designing the pieces.

One of Van Cleef & Arpels’ most striking special pieces is a flying bird carrying a briolette-cut yellow diamond of 96.62 carats. In the 1930s, this unique gem belonged to the opera singer and socialite Ganna Walska, who wore it as a pendant. In keeping with Van Cleef & Arpels’ tradition of transformability, the bird can also metamorphose into a pair of winged earrings and even a brooch, while the magnificent yellow diamond can be detached from the clip and worn alone as a pendant. 

Another versatile piece is this zip necklace, 1954-Patrick Gries, which is transformable into a bracelet.

This was my favourite piece of all... The Spanish ballerina clip, 1942-Patrick Gries.  I find the design absolutely sweet with the play of colours.

This is extremely amazing piece as it is a clutch bag but with so many personal grooming items that a woman wants to put in a bag. This is known as Wild rose Minaudière, 1938 - Patrick Gries.
