It has been about one year and 2 months since I sold away my Volkswagen Beetle convertible.  Till today, I still deeply miss it.  On the roads, when i see a Volkswagen Beetle convertible or even just a Volkswagen Beetle zoom past, my heart will ache a lot.

My previous Volkswagen Beetle convertible. Still miss it very much!

The reason why I sold my previous car away was because my two kids, Kaiser and Rayes, were growing up fast.  As a single mummy who had to ferry them up and down childcare centre, bringing them to enrichment classes, going for our mummy-son bonding outings, it became a chore to bring down the front row of car seat, climb into the backseat while carrying Rayes into the car and securing him in the car seat.

As such, I made the painful decision to sell my Volkswagen Beetle convertible away and bought a Honda Jazz in the interim period while I think through carefully what my next car should be.

I know that I can't buy a two door car, as I need to factor in the fact that it should be convenient for the kids and my helper to get in and out of the car easily.

Secondly, I am someone who prefers a small car for ease of zipping around and getting into a parking lot easily.

Thirdly, I wanted a reliable continental car brand as I still prefer the heavy handling of the car through the steering wheel.  Most continental cars just feel so stable when I do a turn and when I cruise at a faster speed, the cars do feel like they are floating in the air.

After considering the above three factors, I have zoomed into one particular car brand... Mercedes Benz!  It is a well known reliable continental car brand which even my car mechanic recommends.

After looking at all the various Mercedes Benz car brand models, I have set my dream to own a Mercedes Benz A170.  Yes, you must be wondering... why the hell does Elaine Heng want a car that is no longer in production and she has to buy a second hand car, Mercedes Benz A170, if she wants to own one?

Mercedes Benz A170. Photo taken from mad4wheels.com

Reasons being:

1) Elaine Heng likes small, easy to handle cars and after she looks at all the Mercedes Benz car models, only A170 fits her bill.

2) Elaine Heng feels that it is kinda silly to pay for a new car when depreciation is so high.  She prefers a second hand car where depreciation is less steep.

3) Elaine Heng doesn't want to fork out too much money on a car and prefers to have some extra cash on hand for the kids.  Being a single mummy is not easy especially when it comes to finances.  I have to ensure that the kids have food on the table, good education, gets to go out of the house for family outings, on top of other commitments like housing loan, insurance, etc.

Yes, my dream is to own a Mercedes Benz A170!  But we all know that owning a car has a hefty price tag to pay.  Even though this is a dream,  I hope to fulfill very soon as I know that GoBear is running a contest where you and me stand a chance to win S$10,000 CASH!  This will add into the funds which I am setting aside.

I was back at the Clementi Mall but this time round, it was for eyelash extensions.  I had my previous eyelash extensions done at the the outlet in Bedok Mall and I love them so much.  Basically, I do not need to spend a lot of time putting on my eye makeup as the eyelash extensions made my eyes big and more defined.

The room where I did my eyelash extensions.
I told the beauty therapist that this time round, I wanted a more sexier look by going for slightly more dramatic look, with the lashes longer at the outer corners of the eyes.

After hearing my request, she chose this set of lashes for me.

She pasted collagen eye masks on the bottom part of my eyes while she did her magic on my eyelashes... nice!

Eyelash extension will take a while hence try to schedule it on days when you are free and try not to make any appointments after that, so that you can relax while getting your eyelash extension done.

My eyelash extensions using 10mm at the inner corners of the eyes, 11mm at the middle and 13mm at the outer corners of the eyes.

Putting on false eyelashes was never an easy thing for me until I mastered the technique.  However, it would still take me at least 10 mins to put the false eyelashes on both eyes.

When Vanity by Nailz Treats invited me to try their latest service, Japanese Sable Lash Eyelash Extension, I readily agreed to it cos it means cutting down on my makeup time duration... yeah!

Vanity by Nailz Treats uses sable which is the lightest and thinnest of the range of different eyelash extension.  The thinnest available is 0.8mm and comes in J/C/Super C curl.  It is very light weight, soft and more comfortable compare to silk lashes.

The eyelash technician will choose the right customised curl to suit your eye and achieve the preferred look, using one on one technique.  It is gentle on natural lashes, glossy, shing and have a more natural fluffy look.

One final look at my original eyelashes before the eyelash extension began...

The eyelash extension technician proceeded to disinfect my eyelashes before she start the procedure.

Plaster was pasted at the underage area to prevent the glue from sticking onto the lower eye area.

The technician started gluing the sable eyelashes one by one onto my natural eyelashes.  While she was doing the extension, she mentioned some tips on how to take care of the eyelash extension so that it will last longer.

For example, do not use the eyelash comb to comb the eyelash extension in case you tug out the extension .  Also, do not rub your eyes as it may dislodge the sable eyelashes.  Do not spray water using the showerhead onto your face as the force may weakened the eyelash extension glue.

Let's take a look at the eyelash extension...

The eyelash extension technician chose J curl, 10mm at the sides, followed by 11mm and 13mm at the centre to achieve the dolly effect.

I love the fact that I can save time from doing my eye makeup and on days where I go without makeup, my eyes still look fresh and bright.

The Eyelash technicians are certified from a professional Japanese school and undergo the professional way of doing the eyelash extension technique.

Vanity by Nailz Treats is currently running the following promotions:
1. S$68 for 120 strands  (Usual price S$128)
2. S$98 for unlimited strands.  (Usual price $158)

Vanity by Nailz Treats is located at Bedok Mall, #B1-56, Tel: 6385 6255.

After so many days of CNY feasting, I was very lucky that Sen'se by De Belle invited me over to try its Signature Slimming Treatment.

The salon is located at 14 Scotts Road, #02-02 Far East Plaza.  Very convenient for customers.  You can either take public transport via MRT or buses.  If you drive, there is ample parking at Far East Plaza or the nearby shopping centres.

This was the lovely sight that greeted me when I stepped into the salon.

Let's take a look at the treatment room.  This room contained the slimming machine which would be used on me.  I loved how the room was decorated with the feminine lacy curtains and flowery wall paper.

This is another of their treatment room... bright and cheery.

See... I have grown some 'meat' during CNY so just nice... time for a slimming session.

Getting ready for the Signature Slimming Treatment by changing out of my clothes.  The therapist assured me that there is no or minimal pain hence I could rest my mind and heart at ease.

Firstly, the therapist applied this slimming solution onto the areas which I wanted to slim down, namely my love handles and my tummy.

The treatment is safe and non invasive, so customers do not need to worry about any downtime.

The machine works in this way, using a four step method:

First step is Cavitation which means it works to burst the fat cells
Second step is using R.F to burn the fat cells
Third step is using Laser to dissolve the fat cells
Forth step is to use Vacuum to drain and firm the skin

After the treatment, it was time to take a photo with the therapist who patiently explained the steps to me.

The other therapist who was working on that day too.

Let's take a look at a before and after photo of myself or rather my waist portion.  The top photo was taken before I did the Signature Slimming Treatment and the bottom photo was taken after the treatment.  Can you see the difference?  I was surprised that results could be seen immediately for my case.  The therapist said that I needed to drink more water than usual to allow more fats to be passed out of my body through waste matters.

So amazing!

In order to see even better results, it is recommended to do the Signature Slimming Treatment more than once.

Sen'se by De Belle came up with a package for Post Chinese New Year Slimming Special to help ladies like me slim down after feasting on too much goodies... lol.

My readers will also get 10% discount for services when you quote 'Elaine Heng'.

Yeah... hurry and call +65 6734 9919 to make enquiries on the services offered, such as slimming treatments, facials, etc and make your appointments now.

14 Jan 2016 was the first time I tried Fugu Fish or commonly known as Puffer Fish.  For those who do not know, fugu fish is considered an expensive delicacy but yet one of the most dangerous fish to eat due to the toxins in the fish.

The intestines, ovaries and liver of fugu fish contain a poison called tetrodotoxin, which is 1,200 times deadlier than cyanide. The toxin is so potent that a lethal dose is smaller than the head of a pin, and a single fish has enough poison to kill 30 people.

Eating fugu fish is basically a gamble with lifestyle, luxury and death.  Because of the high risk involved in preparing fugu fish for safe consumption, chefs must undergo many years of training to obtain a fugu-preparing license, and such expertise raises the price of a fugu dish.

Thanks to FUKU fine Fugu Kaiseki Restaurant for the kind invite to try out their signature fugu dishes.  The FUGU set courses starts from a whopping S$150/person.  It was indeed a fine dining experience prepared with one of the most luxurious yet exciting fish-Fugu.

Want to see how a cute version of the fugu fish looks like?  See below.  The restaurant has made the dried up version of the puffer fish into a decoration.  So cute and interesting!

A kiss for the cute puffer fish!  Look at the tiny pricks or spikes on the body.  When the fugu fish senses any danger, it will puff up and the pricks or spikes become more prominent to scare off bigger fishes who might want to eat up the fugu fish.

This is another type of fugu fish with even more prominent spikes.  Woah... my goosebumps came up by just looking at this picture.

One of the dishes served was this boiled fugu fish meat.  So excited to test it out for the first time!

Some of the condiments to go with the fugu meat.

Next up was the thinly sliced fugu sashimi.  It had a mild sweetness to it.

Mr Koji Tuskamoto, executive chef advised on how to eat the sashimi so that it tasted even better.  Basically, you should wrap the baby leeks with the sashimi and top it up with condiments and dip in ponzu sauce.

This gotta be one of my favourite dishes-deep fried fugu fish!  The fish was crispy on the outside and the meat was so tender on the inside.  It was done in temporal style but the meat around the bones were extremely sweet.

It just went so well with the lime and salt.

Taking a look at the raw fugu fish meat which would be used for the steamboat later on.

This is fugu fish imported from Japan.  The toxins were already removed hence it was safe for consumption in Singapore.

The executive chef, Mr Koji Tsukamoto, slicing the fugu fish meat into thin slices.

The fugu fish steamboat for the night.

The executive chef cooked the steamboat by placing different parts of the fugu fish into the boiling stock strategically.

Boil soup boil!

Japanese are particular about the presentation of the food hence care is taken to put in the rest of the food ingredient properly so that the steamboat could look and taste good.

Just looked at this lovely pot of fugu fish steamboat!  It was light yet nutritious with green vegetables, mushrooms, carrots and much more.

Mr Koji, the Executive Chef in action!

After eating up most of the ingredients in the steamboat, there were still some soup left.  Mr Koji cooked egg porridge with the remaining soup and wow... the porridge tasted amazing!  Initially I thought that the porridge would taste like the fugu fish steamboat soup since that was the soup base for the porridge but interestingly, the porridge took on its own unique flavour.

I loved having the porridge with the japanese pickles.

FUKU Fine Fugu Kaiseki Restaurant has two separate rooms for booking, if you want quiet time for business entertainment, discussions or family time with loved ones or catching up with friends.

This is the dining hall for which is very cozy too.

Just look at the display of Japanese alcohol on this specially designed shelving. Customers can see what is available for ordering.

And before I left the restaurant, I definitely need to grab a photo with Mr koji Tsukamoto who prepared such a wonderful fugu set course.

Thanks FUKU Fine Fugu Kaiseki Restaurant and Mr Koji for the wonderful and luxurious food tasting session!
