Being a car driver for more than 10 years, I have developed a keen interest in cars and love checking out new car launches to find out the new developments and features.

Thanks to Cycle & Carriage KIA Pte Ltd and The Hoffman Agency, I was invited to an exclusive media preview on 6 Jan 2017 way before the embargo date of 12 Jan 2017 for the release on the news of the all-new Niro Hybrid Utility Vehicle.

Exclusive Media Preview of the all-new Niro Hybrid Utility Vehicle

The exclusive media preview was held in the Wine Company in Dempsey Hill, where the NIRO was parked right outside for invited press to take a closer look.  As it was drizzling that day, I waited for a while before I could take photos with this all-new emission vehicle,  The Niro – labelled a Hybrid Utility Vehicle (HUV) – represents a new concept from the Korean car brand, and marks the development of Kia’s first dedicated eco-car platform.  This is the first-of-its-kind compact HUV, engineered from the ground up, with dedicated green technologies for greater fuel economy.

As the rain got a bit heavier, the guests were ushered into the Wine Company for some food and drinks as well as a presentation by Mr Eric Chan, Managing Director - Singapore Motor Operations, Jardine Cycle & Carriage.

He commented, “We wanted to give our consumers everything that they could want from a compact crossover in terms of practicality and styling, while providing the typically low running costs associated with a dedicated hybrid powertrain. In fact, the compact SUV market remains one of the fastest-growing segments in Singapore, and by offering a handsome, modern appearance, high practicality and extraordinary fuel economy, Kia’s new feature-packed Niro will be the most appealing and desirable car in its price segment.”

We were treated to some food and wine while waiting patiently for the rain to stop before taking a closer look at The Niro.

Finally the rain stopped and I managed to get into the NIRO to check it out.

Come follow me and take a closer look at the NIRO's interior!

The first thing that caught my eyes was the powerful sunroof opens or closes with the press of a button to let in sunshine and fresh air.

The blind spot detection sensors trigger visual alerts to inform you of vehicles in the blind spot, for easier and safer lane changes.

The wireless smartphone charger charge your compatible mobile phone wirelessly on the charging pad-without the need to find and connect a cord.

The driver and front passenger ventilated seats provide cool air on hot days, ensuring you a comfortable and refreshing ride.

Bold styling for all-new hybrid model

A new addition to Kia’s design-led product range, the Kia Niro will boast a brand new design, with a sporty, aerodynamic body, subtly sculptured surfaces and styling details finishing off the car’s modern new look. While the Niro is an all-new model, with no direct predecessors, it still features the company’s signature ‘tiger-nose’ grille and a series of other design cues from the latest Kia products. The styling of the new Niro development project has been led by Kia’s design centers in California, USA and Namyang, Korea.

The car’s designers highlight the most modern architectural designs and contemporary sculptural art as key inspirations behind the new HUV’s body. The vehicle boasts smooth, sleek proportions, while its relatively wide stance portrays stability and a low center of gravity. The long wheelbase minimizes the size of the front and rear overhangs, while ensuring occupants enjoy the maximum possible interior space.

Class-leading fuel economy and 88g/km CO2 emissions

The main focus of engineering teams’ efforts behind the development of the new model is to deliver class-leading fuel economy in the compact crossover segments. The Kia Niro will combine a stylish design with greater fuel economy than its rivals, with CO2 emissions rating of 88 g/km (combined).

Throughout the Niros development process, it has been conceived as a dedicated hybrid model. The car will achieve its ultra-low emissions levels and impressive fuel economy with a downsized hybrid powertrain, pairing Kia’s 1.6-liter ‘Kappa’ gasoline direct injection (GDI) engine (105 ps power output and 147 Nm of torque) with a 1.56 kWh lithium-polymer battery pack and 32 kW electric motor. The powertrain’s combined power output and torque will be applied to the road through a highly-efficient six-speed double-clutch transmission.

The platform underpinning the Niro has been engineered specifically to accommodate this next-generation gasoline-electric hybrid powertrain.

The Niro also officially received a Guinness World Record® for the lowest fuel consumption driving across the USA from coast to coast (hybrid car). The new record-setting mark is an incredible 76.6 mpg.

Technology that provides a piece of mind

Based upon a bespoke new platform, the Kia Niro’s body is made of 53% Kia’s proprietary Advanced High Strength Steel resulting in a rigid chasis. Hot stamping of components are also applied to 24 key stress areas, contributing to the class-leading fuel economy and high safety standards. Part of a wider effort by Kia, the extended use of advanced-high strength steel will help Kia reach its target of a 5% reduction in the average weight of new car bodies by 2020 compared to 2014 levels.

With a strong, lightweight body and 7-airbag system, the Niro has achieved a 5-STAR Euro NCAP rating, building on Kia’s reputation for producing cars with a strong crash safety performance. The company’s engineering teams are also targeting the highest possible marks from independent safety test organizations around the world, aided by a host of the latest passive, active and pre-collision safety features such as the Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and more.

The high-strength platform will not only result in a high safety rating, but also help minimize noise, vibration and harshness (NVH), a key focus throughout the Niro’s conception. The strong body also enables Kia’s chassis and dynamics experts to give the car a smooth, refined ride and engaging handling characteristics.

10-year lithium battery warranty

Cycle & Carriage Kia gives you an additional piece of mind by offering a 10-year lithium battery warranty on top of the existing 10-year engine warranty and 5-year unlimited mileage warranty.

With all the wonderful features of The Niro, it is time to visit Cycle & Carriage KIA showroom to check it out now!

What is the most important must-have goodie for Chinese New Year (CNY)?

For me, it has to be pineapple tarts.  This year, I had the chance to savour the goodness of the finest Original Pineapple Tarts from Bakerzin, one of the best quintessential traditional pineapple tarts in Singapore.

This year, Bakerzin up the competition by tantalise taste buds with two new flavours in the Assorted Pineapple Tarts range.  Thanks Bakerzin and Touch PR for hand delivering these wonderful pineapple tarts over to my place!

What to know what flavours they come in and how they taste like? Read on to find out more. :)

Original Pineapple Tarts $22.80 / box of 18 pieces, Net Weight 390g

Original Pineapple Tarts

The shape of these buttery, heavenly classic treats are already enough to put a smile on people's face during CNY period as it symbolises prosperity.  With every bite, crumbly outer layer of pastry melts in your mouth and is well proportionate to the homemade pineapple jam core made from specially selected pineapples. While most pineapple tarts are sweet, Bakerzin’s golden ingots offer a slight twist with notable hints of spices like cinnamon and cloves.  Touted as the ‘King of Pineapple Tarts’ by media such as The Sunday Times and Silverkris, this will be definitely a hit with young and old, so make sure you stock up more of these at home.

NEW Assorted Pineapple Tarts $22.80 (assorted) / box of 18 pieces, Net Weight 390g

Fish Floss Pineapple Tarts

Lemongrass Pineapple Tarts

When tradition meets innovation at Bakerzin, you get two new exciting flavours - Fish Floss and Lemongrass, perfect for those looking for alternatives to the classics.

The Fish Floss tart gives a nice balance of sweet and savoury as you sink your teeth into the flavourful homemade jam suffuse with a generous blend of fish floss filling and with Bakerzin’s signature butter tart pastry.

The Chinese believe that fish symbolises the abundance of wealth so what better way to showcase this innovation is the shape of a fish.

The unique and aromatic Lemongrass flavour packs a punch in an adorable ‘pineapple’ shape. The first bite into the tart emanates a fragrant energising scent reminiscent of being in a spa. Likewise, the outer layer of the pastry is baked to perfection and beautifully complements this zesty flavour often used in Asian cuisine.

There are 9 pieces of each flavour – Fish Floss and Lemongrass, packed into the festive tin.

Another big hit amongst customers, Bakerzin’s Chinese New Year festive tins are frequently praised for its intricate and elaborate design. Bakerzin’s tins are also well-loved for its multi-purpose functionalities which you can use to display a variety of Chinese New Year goodies, to keep as a collectible or to recycle for other storage purposes.

The sweet boss of Nailz Treats texted me recently to drop by Vanity at Nailz Treats located at Bedok Mall, #B1-56 to try out their latest eyelash extensions using only 0.07mm, much thinner than the ones which I had on previously and yet the eyelashes would still look voluminous and fluttery.

As I would be travelling overseas since and having eyelash extensions will be much easier for me than to stick false eyelashes everyday, I was definitely going for this eyelash extensions to see the difference.

The eyelash extensions were glued onto my original lashes so the process will take a while.  Hence if you are looking at eyelash extensions, do set some time free and don’t set another appointment after your eyelash extensions, just in case the beauty therapist need more time.

Take a look at the before and after photo of eyelash extensions.  So much difference right?  It is going to be more convenient when I travel overseas in a few days time.  I won’t need to bring along my false eyelashes and eylash glue in my makeup kit and spend time in the morning putting on the false eyelashes.

Before eyelash extensions

After eyelash extensions

After a few times of eyelash extensions, I already have in mind what I wanted – longer eyelash extensions at the outer corners of the eyes, shorter eyelash extensions at the inner corner of the eyes to give my eyes a more elongated and sexier look.

Besides eyelash extensions, I also did my gelish manicure and pedicure at Nailz Treats.  Since Christmas is approaching, the manicurists decided to do a Christmas theme for my nailart design.

I really admire the manicurists for painstakingly draw out the designs on my nails. They need to be very meticulous in each stroke to get the design out on a tiny nail space.  I will die if I were to do that.

Can you spot the cute snowman and the reindeer on both my thumbs and the snowflakes on two of my fingers?  So cute right?

My Xmas theme gelish manicure

My feet were in for a treat as the manicurist scrubbed away my dead skin and cut all the dead cuticles away before painting the toenails with a Xmas theme too.

I love to do my manicure and pedicure in Nailz Treats as I get to sit on the massage chair and get a good back rub while beautifying my nails, without any extra cost at all.

It is always a joy to visit Nailz Treats for my gelish manicure and pedicure as I have so much to chat with the friendly manicurists there, on top of the great services Nailz Treats provide.  Not to mention... the massage chairs which customers get to sit on, enjoying an awesome back massage while getting our nails done.

It had been more than a month since I last visited Nailz Treats.  Since my previous gelish manicure has peeled off on some of my fingers, it was time to visit Nailz Treats again.  Nails Treats has many outlets and I visited the one located in Clementi Mall #04-14.

The nice welcoming decor
These are some of the massage chairs which I am super in love with.  Getting a back massage done while beautifying my nails... multi-tasking at its best!

The manicurist worked on removing my previous gelish nail polish first.

Another manicurist worked on my toe nails at the same time so that my nails are ready at a shorter time.
Cutting dead cuticles away
Buffing my nail to smooth it out
Pushing the cuticles back
Cutting the dead cuticles away
Scrubbing the dead skin cells away from my foot
my feet felt cleaner now!
The manicurist applied the first layer of base coat on my nails before the rest of the colours.

The other manicurist massaged my leg and feet to ease the tension away.

A second layer of base coat was applied as the design called for it.

This was the first time I see this method of applying shiny specks of silver colour on the nails.  All the manicurist did was to use a sticker like tape and go over my nails to create a glitter effect.

See how unique the nail design on each nail looked.  I like the fact that it looked clean yet with subtle glam.

The manicurist also did two different nailart design on two different fingers as well to complete the look.

Just look at the amazing nailart design!  It was so meticulously drawn.
My nails are so ready for Singapore Fashion Week as I was invited to attend some of the fashion shows.

I absolutely adored this set of nails as most of the nails had a clear base hence when the nails grew longer, it wouldn't be too obvious.  The silver specks add a touch of understated glamour, which went well with the black nail polish and the interesting intricate nailart design.

I am so in love with this set of gelish manicure with nailart!
